Monthly Domaine - Frederic Magnien

As a fifth-generation winemaker from Morey-Saint-Denis, Frédéric Magnien has earned widespread acclaim for his visionary approach to Burgundian terroir. Beginning in the late 1990s, Frédéric transformed his family's winemaking philosophy by adopting organic and biodynamic viticulture across all worked parcels, following the lunar cycle closely in both vineyard and cellar. His most revolutionary evolution came in 2015, when he significantly reduced traditional oak barrel usage in favor of custom terracotta amphorae (jarres en terre cuite). This pioneering technique eliminates wood tannins and heavy oak aromatics, allowing the pure, unadulterated essence of fruit, minerality, and site-specific terroir to shine through with breathtaking transparency.

In the cellar, Frédéric works with indigenous yeasts, minimal sulfur, and gentle extractions to produce wines that possess incredible aromatic lift, silk-like textures, and vibrant natural acidity. From rare Côte de Nuits Chardonnays to highly sought-after, mature ex-domaine releases directly from his library cellars, the wines of Frédéric Magnien represent a masterclass in modern Burgundian precision—delivering pure, energetic, and deeply expressive Pinot Noir and Chardonnay built for both immediate enjoyment and long-term cellaring.
