Monthly Domaine - Ballot Millot

Domaine Ballot-Millot stands as one of the most exciting, critically acclaimed stars of Meursault today. Traceable back to the 17th century, this historic family estate underwent a total transformation when Charles Ballot took the reigns in 2001. Shifting away from the heavy, buttery styles of Meursault's past, Charles pioneered a modern aesthetic centered on laser-sharp precision, electric acidity, and profound mineral drive. Farming roughly 12 hectares across prime lieux-dits in Meursault, Chassagne-Montrachet, Volnay, and Pommard, the estate practices organic viticulture with low yields, high canopy management, and meticulous soil tilling.

In the cellar, Charles Ballot’s approach is a masterclass in restraint. Utilizing indigenous yeasts, low levels of new oak (rarely exceeding 20–25%), and long, slow aging on the fine lees without heavy stirring (bâtonnage), he crafts white Burgundies that effortlessly balance rich mid-palate texture with pure, saline-driven tension. Equally compelling are the domain's small-production reds, which showcase refined tannins and intense floral aromatics. The result is a benchmark portfolio revered by sommeliers and top collectors for its crystalline purity, age-worthiness, and authentic site expression.
