The Morey family have been described as ‘the senior clan in Chassagne-Montrachet’ and in true Burgundian fashion it takes a while to work out who owns what and is married to whom. Caroline is the daughter of Jean Marc Morey and is married to Pierre-Yves Colin, with whom she makes wines under the Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey label. In recent years she has taken control of some of her family’s vineyard holdings, many of which are sited in Chassagne’s best premier crus. She supplements the fruit from these holdings with grapes purchased from other top growers. Vinification is very similar to that of the Colin-Morey wines, with a preference for 350 litre barrels to avoid excessive oak characters. The aim is to produce wines which can be enjoyed young but have the ability to age for ten years or more.
